How he performed
He got Ahmedgarh upgraded as a sub-division and municipal council status for Amargarh, besides being behind at least one of three government colleges opened here in last 10 years. He got repaired several roads and claims to have undertaken development works worth Rs 250 crore in all, including waterworks, sewerage and other civic works in villages. As Muslim voters are significant here, he got Rs 3 crore for community development works. However, the area still lags in terms of facilities and cleanliness, in the absence of a solid waste management mechanism. Rising from the post of sarpanch, he has become MLA twice, thus is known to be communicative and remained in constant touch with workers. Old-time Akalis accuse him of ignoring them and pandering to Congress factions instead.

How he performed
The SAD has nominated Garg again from this seat in its first list of candidates for the assembly polls due in early 2017. During his term, he has changed the face of the city’s bus stand which was in a miserable condition for 40 years. Besides a new bus stand, Sangrur got flyovers, the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, a de-addiction cum rehabilitation centre and a School for the Meritorious. The MLA says that he spent Rs 3 crore on an advanced dairy training centre which is providing alternative farming techniques to farmers. Government Ranbir College got a new administrative building and Rs 34 crore were spent on power supply augmentation in the area. But the people are still facing sewerage and traffic problems. The area saw protests on a daily basis by farmers, labourers and jobless youth.

The sewerage still overflows during rainy days. Development projects were started only close to polls. There is no proper traffic system. Roads were made with poor material.
