Badal thanks Parliament, Centre for SGPC Act amendment

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday thanked Parliament and the Centre for the amendment to Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) Act barring Sehajdhari Sikhs from casting votes in the SGPC elections and termed it as a “historic moment” for Sikh community.

“It is indeed a matter of pride for all of us and we profusely thank Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre for this historic initiative,” he said.

The chief minister said the wheat procurement in the state was going on in a hassle free manner.

Refuting the allegations levelled by opposition parties, he claimed that the procurement was going on in a transparent manner adding that state government has made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth and prompt procurement of wheat crop in mandis.

He said the officers concerned have been directed to issue payment to the farmers at the earliest.

He said every Punjabi must come forward to promote the ethos of Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat so that youngsters could be made aware of this rich cultural legacy of the state.
