Protest for naming International airport after Bhagat Singh

Youths from Punjab and several other states, including activists from the tricity, assembled at Tribune Chowk and demanded to change the name of Chandigarh International Airport to Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh International Airport on Sunday.

Youths from Punjab and several other states, including activists from the tricity, assembled at Tribune Chowk and demanded to change the name of Chandigarh International Airport to Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh International Airport on Sunday.

Professor Jagmohan Singh, nephew of Bhagat Singh and a human rights fighter, Abhey Singh Sandhu, Bhagat Singh’s nephew and Dharamvira Gandhi, member of Parliament from Patiala, joined the protest and demanded immediate announcement of the airport in the name of Bhagat Singh.

They also demanded that the Central government should include all martyrs from revolt of 1857 to 1947 as in the official list of martyrs of Indian freedom struggle. “A memorial at India Gate in memory of our national martyrs should be constructed. Land and funds be granted for constructing a complex comprising of an auditorium, library and research centre in memory of our great martyrs, in New Delhi,” mentioned the official statement.

The protest was organised by many social activists gathered under the banner Youth for India, Youth for Shaheed-E-Azam.
