A motorcycle-borne man looted `15 lakh from a petrol pump owner at gunpoint near MBD Mall at BMC Chowk in Jalandhar on Friday.
Vishal Bajaj, 26, of GTB Nagar, who owns a fuel station at Chahehru on the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway, had come to deposit money in Indian Overseas Bank branch when the incident took place.
In his complaint to the police, Bajaj said when he alighted from his Toyota Innova, a man with long beard tried to snatch his bag containing cash. When he resisted, the accused pointed a gun at him and fled with the bag on a motorcycle.
Police officials reached the sport and recorded statements of fruit vendors and bank’s security guard, but failed to get any leads. They have also procured the closed-circuit television footage of the accused and hunt has been launched to nab him. A case under Sections 379-B (snatching) and 25, 27 and 54 of the Arms Act has been registered against.
