Sacrilege incident of Guru Granth Sahib in Tarn Taran village, one held

Earlier some reports had suggested that the pages were found torn. However, the SSP made it clear that the pages of Guru Granth Sahib were not torn but bended slightly.

Sacrilege incident of Guru Granth Sahib in a gurdwara at Naushehra Pannuan village, 12 km from Tarn Taran was reported on Saturday.

Buta Singh, granthi of the gurdwara, said when he began reciting Gurbani from the holy bir of Guru Granth Sahib on Friday, he found that its pages were desecrated. He immediately brought the matter to the notice of the management, which called the police.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harjit Singh, SP (detection) Rupinder Kumar Bhardwaj and other officials visited the spot and watched the CCTV footage.

Earlier some reports had suggested that the pages were found torn. However, the SSP made it clear that the pages of Guru Granth Sahib were not torn but bended slightly.

Police found that former granthi Varinder Singh who was removed recently committed the sacrilege.

Sources said the management removed him on April 8 and appointed a new granthi. Varinder kept a grudge in his mind and decided to take revenge from new granthi.

After committing the sacrilege, Varinder himself lodged a complaint to the management and accused the present granthi of negligence, said Sarhali SHO Ajay Kumar.
