Taking note of the shooting incident wherein a resident killed two stray dogs in the Urban Estate residential area, the Patiala Municipal Corporation will float tenders for sterilisation of stray canines in the city.
On Monday, Patiala deputy commissioner Rambir Singh chaired a special meeting at his office on the issue. He said in a couple of days the MC will float tenders to curb the menace.
He said the MC would arrange funds for the sterilisation of the stray dogs.
“It has been decided to hire experts for sterilisation of as the issue needs an immediate solution. During the sterilisation process, the habitats of these stray dogs will remain same to avoid any infectious diseases. To hire experts for the job it would cost Rs 1,000 per canine,” Rambir Singh said.
There has been a rise in incidents of dog bite cases and the authorities concerned were not acting on the complaints.
Inderjit Singh of Urban Estate Phase 3 had opened fire at stray dogs in a bid to protect his four-year-old daughter who was allegedly attacked by the canines. While two of the dogs died in the incident, others had a narrow escape.
Acting on the complaint of his neighbour, the police had registered a case under sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others, 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle etc) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Arms Act against Inderjit.

He added that further the police are also verifying the cause of death from the doctors who had conducted the postmortem of dogs to procure the documentary evidence in the case.
