All the 77 employees working at the centre in the mini-secretariat building here, observed a strike for the whole day.
Addressing the gathering, Bavaljeet Singh, president of the district unit of Suvidha centres' employees union, said, "The government is mulling to privatise all the 160 suvidha centres in the state. If the decision is taken, 1,100 employees of the centres will have to work under the private company, which is injustice with us. Instead of regularising our jobs, the government is planning to open service centres with the help of private companies, which will cost `250 crore to the government," he added.

The union has threatened to hold a statewide protest on January 23 in Chandigarh.
