Telecom tribunal holds seminar on regulatory framework

In a seminar organised by Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) at Himachal Pradesh high court premises here on Saturday, TDSAT chairman Justice Aftab Alam accentuated upon to organise seminars to aware people stressing upon their relevance with day to day work of participants.

In the seminar organised on “Regulatory framework and dispute resolutions in telecom, broadcasting and cable services sectors”, he deliberated about the economy of dispute resolution through mediation in broadcasting sector. He said that the mediation centre for telecom disputes resolution started functioning in July 2013, and a total 148 cases were referred to it, out of which 47 cases were settled through mediation, 59 cases referred back to TDSAT, and 42 are pending.

Alam said, “Due to lack of awareness, sometimes the penal passed orders that further led to complexity.”
The seminar was inaugurated by the acting chief justice of Himachal Pradesh high court Mansoor Ahmad Mir. In his address, he underlined the significance of the process of mediation in settlement of telecom disputes.
He said that telecom services are integral part of everyday life and the sector has grown exponentially in the country, with which the telecom disputes have also grown and mediation has a great potential for providing satisfying solutions to dispute.
