A local court on Monday sentenced five persons, including three women, to 10 years of imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a minor.

A fine of Rs 1.55 lakh was also imposed on the rape accused, Jeevan Singh, who hails from Sirsa. Of this amount, Rs 1.5 lakh will be given to the victim as compensation. In addition to prison term, a fine of Rs 5,000 each was also imposed on the other four accused namely, Abhishek, his wife Liza, daughter Babli and a Mansa resident, Kuldeep Kaur, for kidnapping the victim.

The matter dates back to September 19, 2016, when the victim’s father filed a complaint about his missing 13-year-old daughter at the Sector-34 police station. He initially assumed that she had left home following an argument but approached the police when he couldn’t find her at their relatives’ residences.

The police then registered a case and on October 6, 2016, they received an information about a girl found abandoned near Faidan village. The police reached the spot and found her to be the same girl who had gone missing. She told the police that she managed to flee the custody of her kidnappers. The police informed her family and got her medical examination conducted which confirmed rape.

The victim said that Babli had kidnapped her with the help of Abhishek and Liza. She was then taken to Mansa and was married off to Jeevan Singh against her will. The victim said that she was repeatedly raped by Jeevan.
