The governor, who is the chancellor of the two universities, on Tuesday ordered that IAS officers Hardeep Kumar and D Suresh would perform the duties of vice-chancellors of KU and IGU, respectively, in addition to their present duties, till further orders.

The Haryana government had in March ordered an inquiry against the KU vice-chancellor for "prima facie misuse of powers" in engaging 1,578 employees without proper justification and authorisation of the state government.

Recently, the state vigilance bureau initiated a probe into the selection of an assistant professor in KU after irregularities were found in the interview process conducted by a selection committee headed by Lt Gen Sandhu (retd). Retired IAS officer Mohinder Kumar was also facing an inquiry into alleged irregularities in selections for various posts in IGU.
