In Twitter ‘trends’, AAP-SAD slugfest on drugs, Majithia, Mann

The political slugfest over Punjab’s drug abuse problem turned fiercely personality-oriented online on Monday, with the top two Twitter ‘trends’ in India being cross-allegations against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) minister Bikram Singh Majithia and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Bhagwant Mann.

The political slugfest over Punjab’s drug abuse problem turned fiercely personality-oriented online on Monday, with the top two Twitter ‘trends’ in India being cross-allegations against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) minister Bikram Singh Majithia and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Bhagwant Mann.

While the top trend at 6.30pm, with over 11,000 tweets and counting, was #DrugSupplierMajithia, the second spot was taken by the trend #BhagwantMannDrugAddict, though the two trends were exchanging spots rather quickly.

The drug menace is a hot issue for long, and is gaining traction online and offline with merely nine months to go for the Punjab assembly elections in 2017. Here are some reports that track the fight on the ground:
