The audio launch of Mani Ratnam’s film, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, took place on Wednesday in Chennai. Present at the event, CCV Unplugged, were composer AR Rahman, lyricist Vairamuthu, director Mani Ratnam, and actors Arvind Swami, Aditi Rao Hydari, Arun Vijay, Aishwarya Rajesh, Silambarasan and Dayana Erappa.
AR Rahman began the evening with a performance of Mazhai Kuruvi and also spoke about being a part of the film. He was asked what was special about this particular collaboration with Mani Ratnam and Rahman asked the director, “Should I tell them?” Amid laughter, he said, “This film takes us back to days of Nayakan. Mani sir has got the same energy from then. The beauty of evil.”
While Sunitha Sarathy performed Sivanthu Pochu Nenje, Arvind Swami and Aditi Rao Hydari also talked about the film on stage. In a nod to Nayakan’s iconic dialogue, Arvind was asked if he was a good guy, or a bad guy. The actor said, “I don’t know what I am. I think you would have to ask our director about it.” Next Aditi Rao Hydari was asked about her role, especially about her as Parvati having an affair with Varadhan, and she said with a smile, “It’s top secret and I won’t be revealing anything.”
Actor Arun Vijay said working with the director was a dream come true.”I am happy that my 25th movie turned out to be with Mani Ratnam sir and the music is composed by AR Rahman. Initially, I was nervous to be on the sets with some great talent like Mani sir, Santosh Sivan sir, Arvind Swami brother and others. But, Mani sir made it very easy for me. Arvind also encouraged me and told me that if there was anything that I needed to know, I should just approach Mani sir. I have heard a lot about Simbu’s work and seen his work, but only after working on this film did I get to know that Simbu is a great human being,” said Arun Vijay who plays the role of Thyagu in the film.
