Actor Chinmay Mandlekar is looking forward to two promising projects in the forthcoming year. He is ready to play Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a period drama Farzand, and is also set to make his long-awaited directorial debut. “The script is ready and written by me. I am in the early stages of talking to actors. I hope for the film to go on floors by mid 2018. It is a very realistic film with a tinge of fantasy. It is neither an out-and-out comedy nor an out-and-out drama. It is a mix of both,” says Chinmay, who will also be seen in Vikramaditya Motwane’s Bhavesh Joshi.
The Shanghai (2012) actor coincidentally will be playing a cop in Bhavesh Joshi. He believes that good projects come if you wait for them. He says, “Honestly, today my priorities have changed. You won’t see me doing the same thing I would have done a few years back, because then I would end up shooting for six films a year and most would get shelved or would not even be completed. These experiences have really helped me choose better as an actor.” He adds that as far as theatre is concerned, he has been working on the Wada trilogy for two years now and once the show ends this year, he may look for other plays. “As of now, I am not into a rush to get into another play,” he says.
After Shanghai, where he portrayed the character of a cop, he was offered several cop roles in Hindi films. “I voluntarily opted out of these films because I did not want to do a film for the sake of it. Ironically, I play a cop in Bhavesh Joshi too, but here my role is substantial.”
