Director-writer Viju Mane admits to being an impulsive man. And, that would explain his two completely different projects this year. His first film this year, Shikari, is an adult drama and his next Monkey Baat is a children’s film. “I am not a planner, especially when it comes to films, I am very impulsive. I take up projects only when I am convinced. Believe me, I have let go at least 20 projects because I wasn’t convinced about it. Every film I do, has to be liked by an audience. That is my key factor,” says Viju.
On attempting different genres in films, Viju shares, “I would request every director to attempt a children’s film at least once. They are our future audience and it is time we cultivate their tastes. We have so many child artistes in our industry, sadly we don’t make films for them. I hope we will be able to open a new market for these kind of films soon. We should make more children’s films.”
The director adds that he has been fortunate to have positive and good people around him. “I have many friends in the industry who are kind enough to participate in my films. For example, musician and director Avadhoot Gupte is making his acting debut in Monkey Baat. At the end of the day, it is all about having the right energies around you.”
Viju adds that he is not here to make money or make films for the sake of it. “I am very passionate about films. This is not my primary source of income, so I don’t feel the need to do every project that comes to me. I pick and choose stories that will help spread a message or simply entertain the audience,” he says.
