Income tax officials on Wednesday raided the houses of popular south Indian film stars Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nayanthara for alleged tax evasion.

Sources said a total of 32 places in Chennai, Hyderabad, Madurai and Kochi were raided. Houses, offices and other properties of Vijay, Samantha and Nayantara were raided simultaneously.
The IT sleuths also raided the houses of director Chimbu Devan and the producer Selvakumar of Vijay’s forthcoming Tamil film “Puli”, which releases in cinemas on Thursday.
The raids were held because there was a complaint that black money was used in the financing of ‘Puli’, sources told Hindustan Times. They also said that the IT department was checking whether the film stars were filing regular and correct returns.
“Puli”, an estimated Rs 100 crore big-budget fantasy drama, is one of the most expensive films made in Tamil.
