Jaxson Dart was briefly evaluated for a concussion vs the New England Patriots on Thursday after his fumble resulted in a minor fall. The New York Giants quarterback, who is among the most exciting rookies this year, however, soon returned after clearing all checks. Eventually, the team decided to sub him out and hand Jameis Winston the ball.

The Giants were leading in the first quarter when, on a fourth down, Dart tried to scramble. He fumbled the ball, which luckily was negated by a defensive hold. However, the quarterback was removed from the game.

Dart had already completed 6 of 12 pases for 81 yards, including a 50-yard gain to Gunner Olszewski and a TD toss to Greg Dulcich.

Soon, team officials said that Dart has cleared the concussion checks.

Jaxson Dart done for the season?

It is likely that Giants' preseason finale was the last time we'll be seeing Jaxson Dart for a long time. The Giants might just have the rookie develop behind veteran Russell Wilson, who is expected to lead the side in Week 1.

Head coach Brian Daboll went with his standard plan: Protect Wilson for Week 1 and test Dart and Jameis Winston.

What Russell Wilson said about Jaxson Dart

Speaking about Dart, Wilson said, “He wants to be great. We work at it every day. I think just the relentless nature that we all have in that room, and he's a great part of that. It's been fun. He's going to have a great career for sure, and I'm rooting for him every day. I think that's the fun part for all of us, not just in the quarterback room, but I see Brian Burns working his tail off to make Abdul Carter better. That shared leadership.”
