He could be a pro in the kitchen, but chef Kunal Kapur admits that it was actor and co-host Akshay Kumar, who taught him how to face the camera. “I learnt a lot from Akshay Kumar when we hosted MasterChef India together during the first season. He taught me how to face the camera and, guided me throughout,” says Kapur, who was seen as a judge and co-host even on the second season of the popular culinary competition on TV.

And how is life post the show? “Life has completely changed!” he says, even as he reveals that people often get excited when they see him now. “It’s like, suddenly I am a celebrity. I have to put on my shades before stepping out for shopping as people recognise me instantly. Even at the restaurant, guests tell me that they loved me on TV, and insist taking photos with me. I am gradually coming to terms with all this attention,” says the executive sous chef of Leela Kempinski, Gurgaon, who is currently busy penning his cookbook.

“My book is about aspirational yet achievable cuisine,” he says. And what’s that? “It’s about how one can use basic kitchen ingredients to make exotic dishes,” elaborates Kapur, who is also gearing up for another food show on the tube.
