Although reality shows have increasingly come under attack for putting too much pressure on contestants, the negatives hardly stops people from turning up for auditions in thousands.

During the
Indian Idol 5
auditions held in Noida Tuesday, a dozen people were injured in a stampede when more number of people turned up than what was expected.
“Reality shows are a shortcut to fame, which makes people go to any length,” Abhijeet Sawant, winner of the first
Indian Idol,
explains.
In 2008, auditions of
MTV
Roadies
were cancelled when some men barged into the auditorium and shattered window panes, leading to a stampede.
“Reality shows are a perfect platform for anyone to get instant fame. I went to
Bigg Boss
to achieve what I hadn’t been able to in so many years,” said Vindu Dara Singh, winner of the show’s third season.
