Vikrant Massey‘The only person I want to compete with is myself’Although he is just 23, Vikrant Massey (aka Shyam of Balika Vadhu and Murli in Baba Aiso Var Dhoondo) claims he has an old school mentality and says he doesn’t believe in awards and nominations. Having said that however, Vikrant is delighted to know that some of the best names in the television industry have declared him one of our Next Big Things. “I am numb right now, I really don’t know what to say,” says Vikrant. “The only competition I actually want is with my own self and for me, work comes above all.” Born and brought up in Mumbai, Vikrant was actually preparing to be a pilot. But his interest in acting was equally strong. He was also a dancer with Shiamak Davar’s troupe.“I started acting almost seven years ago and did a few cameo roles before working with Parmeet Sethi and then with the Disney Channel (Dhoom Machao Dhoom),” recalls Vikrant. He claims to be an introvert, an avid reader who likes to write too and a hardcore sportsperson also.Vikrant’s role in the serial Dharam Veer fetched him a nomination for Indiatelevision.com’s Best New Actor (Male) in 2008, and he soon became a household name with the character of Shyam in the popular Balika Vadhu on Colors.“Everybody says that Balika Vadhu is the best thing to have happened to me, but I pray for the strength to work hard,” he says.

Ragini Khanna'Till have a long way to go'She’s one of the most vivacious actresses on television. And Ragini Khanna feels “great and extremely motivated” on being voted one of our Next Big Things in Brunch. “I’m very happy and thank all those who believed in me strongly enough to vote for me,” Ragini says. “I take my job as an actress very seriously, and I still have a long way to go before I prove my worth.”Though Ragini is content with the kind of work she has done (Bhaskar Bharti, Raadha Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi and Sasural Genda Phool), she claims to be very greedy as an actor. “There is always a desire to do more,” she says. When she was younger, she wanted to sing and often turned down acting offers. Now Ragini has not just proved herself as an actress but is working hard on her dancing skills for Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
