The cold war between Russia and the West is heating up amid fears that President Vladimir Putin might soon invade Ukraine. Currently, the United States and NATO allies have put their troops on standby in an event of military action by Russia in Ukraine. This after reports of Russia stepping up over 1 lakh troops at the Ukraine border surfaced. If the invasion happens, it is set to affect India's ties in times of a tectonic geopolitical flux. While India has ramped up its dialogue with the United States and getting into various pacts and alliances with it, Russia has been strengthening its connections with China in order to better resist US aggression if the need arises. For India, the threat posed by China is seen as being adequately controlled thanks to a deepening relationship with the United States. However, Russian apprehension about that dynamic persists.
