As India prepares to host the BRICS Summit, Prof. (Dr.) Sreeram Chaulia, Dean of the Jindal School of International Affairs, said New Delhi faces the challenge of keeping geopolitical rivalries from overshadowing the grouping’s developmental agenda. Chaulia said the expansion of BRICS from five to 11 members has made consensus-building more complex, particularly amid tensions in West Asia and differences between Iran and the UAE. He also highlighted a broader divide within the bloc, with Russia and China taking a more confrontational approach towards the West, while India, Brazil, South Africa and several newer members favour a pragmatic approach.
