Protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, and a proposed National Register of Citizens, continue in Uttar Pradesh's capital city. The demonstration is led by women and being held at the city's Clock Tower. The protest continued on January 19, despite a face-off with the police over blankets. The demonstrators claimed that the police snatched blankets provided to them. However, the police denied any ill-intent, claiming that some people had tried erecting a cordon which the force foiled. Cops also said that a large crowd was getting attracted to the area as some organisations were distributing blankets, and so, they were removed.
