European Council President Antonio Costa opened the 2025 EU–CELAC Summit in Santa Marta by emphasizing the deepening partnership between Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Costa highlighted joint progress on energy, climate resilience, the digital revolution, and fighting organized crime, while reaffirming the EU’s position as the region’s largest investor with more than €200 billion in direct investment. He called for unity against today’s threats—including climate change, rising authoritarianism, and attacks on democracy—urging leaders to choose dialogue, cooperation, and partnership over division and isolation. The summit aims to bridge differences, build sustainable prosperity, and send a powerful message of global solidarity and shared values.
