China’s Uyghur repression: 47 nations call out Bejing’s abuse in Xinjiang

- As many as 47 countries have now voiced concern about abuses in China's Xinjiang region and repression of ethnic minority Uyghur at the United Nations Human Rights Council. Delivering a joint statement on behalf of 47 countries, Paul Bekkers, the Dutch ambassador to the UN in Geneva, demanded that the United Nations rights chief publish a long-delayed report on Uyghurs' repression. Pointing to a number of "credible reports" indicating that more than one million Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities have been arbitrarily detained in China, Paul said, "We continue to be gravely concerned about the human rights situation in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. So far, Beijing has admitted that there are camps but that they are "vocational skills training centres" and necessary to tackle "extremism". Watch this video for more details.
