Watch: Himanta Biswa Sarma takes oath as Assam Chief Minister l Key details

- Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the 15th Chief Minister of the state of Assam. Sarma was administered oath by Governor Jagdish Mukhi and replaces Sarbananda Sonowal as the Chief Minister of the North Eastern state. 13 other cabinet members also took oath during the ceremony. Sarma has earlier handled key portfolios like Finance, Health and Education in the Sarbananda Sonowal government. The former Congress leader is seen as the architect of the BJP’s rise in the North East. The BJP won a second straight term in the recently concluded assembly polls in the state. The party won 60 seats in the 126-member Assam assembly while its alliance partners AGP got nine seats and UPPL six seats.
