West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee sought to tap into the football craze in the state amid Assembly elections. She played with a football on stage at a rally in Howrah before throwing it to the crowd. A letter sent by her to non-BJP party leaders also surfaced. She cited 'assaults' by the BJP-led Central government on democracy and federalism, and sought a united front.
