FCRA Bill: Opposition MP Lists 'Problems', Then Gives Modi Govt '2 Options'

Published on Jul 31, 2026 10:27 pm IST

CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas launched a sharp attack on the government over the proposed FCRA amendment Bill, alleging that the legislation could be used to target minorities, NGOs and civil society organisations. Brittas called several provisions of the Bill "draconian" and demanded that the legislation be scrapped or, failing that, referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee for detailed scrutiny. Brittas also raised concerns over the alleged lack of transparency surrounding FCRA licence suspensions, cancellations and renewals, claiming that thousands of organisations have faced action and questioning the criteria used by the government.
