People with diabetes or those at risk of diabetes are often recommended to use artificial sweeteners instead of sugar. Sugary things are known to drive insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Whether or not the usage of artificial sweeteners is healthy is still being debated. Since every artificial sweetener is different chemically, it is difficult to understand its effect. Many nutritionists suggest switching to natural sweeteners such as honey or stevia. These may not be completely healthy but are less risky than pure sugar.
