Devaki Jain, a developmental economist, played an important role in drawing attention to women's unacknowledged contribution to India's GDP. In her recently released memoir, The Brass Notebook, she narrates the adventures that took her from her cocooned life as the daughter of a civil servant to the grassroots with Gandhian social activism and later, international feminist networks with her sterling economic contributions.
