Allahabad HC : Triple talaq unconstitutional

Updated on Dec 08, 2016 05:01 pm IST

In an observation, the Allahabad High Court has said the practice of 'triple talaq' by Muslims is unconstitutional and violates the rights of Muslim women. The high court stated, “No personal law board is above the Constitution”. Reacting to this, a Muslim cleric Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali said that while he respected the high court's observation, Muslims had a constitutional right to appeal against it if they were not satisfied.
