Alfred High School, the renowned British-era school where Mahatma Gandhi studied for seven years (1880-1887) has been shut down by the Gujarat Government. The state's education department is planning to convert the school premises into a museum, a move that has upset its alumni fraternity. The alumni of this premium institute are strongly opposing the move and are warning of continuing their protest if the decision is not revoked. Renamed as Mohandas Gandhi Vidyalaya in 1971, this school was built by the Nawab of Junagadh.
