India and China have been at loggerheads at the LAC in Ladakh and despite several rounds of talks, Beijing does not seem ready to restore status quo. The two sides have engaged in five rounds of military level talks but the deadlock has not been broken as yet. The Indian Army has maintained that the pre-April status must be restored at the LAC. Even as talks for de-escalation are underway, both sides have maintained a considerable presence of forces in the disputed areas. Beijing has not lived up to the agreement reached during the 5th July phone conversation between the special representatives on the border issue and the meetings of corps commanders.
