Renowned American photographer Steve McCurry sat down for a conversation with ace Indian photographer Raghu Rai at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2018. McCurry spoke about his famous Afghan girl photo that graced the cover of National Geographic thrice. He said that as soon as he saw the girl (Sharbat Gula), he saw how striking her eyes were and knew that he wanted to photograph her. McCurry said that had life turned out differently for Gula, she could have been a UN Ambassador for refugees. He also said that he helped her buy a house, to compensate for the photo that he took of her.
