Joining thousands of people hit by demonetisation, Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation Sadananda Gowda was denied handing over his brother's body. The medical institution refused to accept bill amounting to Rs. 60,000 in old currencies of Rs. 500 and 1000. “My brother Mr Baskar was admitted in hospital. He passed away after brief illness,” the minister tweeted. Baskar Gowda, the deceased farmer, was undergoing treatment at Mangaluru's Kasturba Manipal Hospital for jaundice to which he succumbed on Tuesday. Gowda, later, made the payment by a cheque.
