Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei says instability in the Strait of Hormuz was caused by U.S. and Israeli military action against Iran beginning on February 28, 2026—not by Tehran. He argues that Iran is entitled, as a coastal state, to take measures it considers necessary for national security and says the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports is an act of aggression under international law.
