Amid escalating tensions in Punjab, Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh's closest aide Lovepreet Toofan was released from Amritsar jail. Toofan's release came just a day after Amritpal Singh and his supporters went on a rampage and stormed into a police complex brandishing swords and guns. Toofan was arrested in a kidnapping and assault case and protesters were demanding his release, claiming that the charges against him were false. Toofan's quick release after the protests has raised serious questions over the law and order situation in Punjab. It has also raised questions over the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab with critics accusing it of playing soft in the hands of radicals.
