Have Delhiites become heartless?

Two months ago, Subodh Kumar, a resident of east Delhi beheaded his wife after torturing her for 12 hours. Neighbours heard the woman's cry for help all night but did nothing to save her. Had anyone called the police, the mother of two would have been alive today. But because it was a case of domestic violence, no one bothered to intervene. This is not the only incident that shows that Delhiites are becoming indifferent to the pain of others. Last month, a gang rape survivor walked on the road without clothes after she jumped off from the balcony to save her life. Passers-by stood and watched as she pleaded for help. Two cars halted for seconds and left without offering the woman any help. These heart-rending incidents compelled us to find out for ourselves if Delhiites have indeed become so heartless. One afternoon, we went out on the streets to find out if it's true that Delhi has lost its compassion. How would people react if they came across a terrified, injured woman on the road? Our social experiment led to many realisations. People were so absorbed in their own lives that they hardly noticed our actor Esha Razdan, who pretended that she was being tortured by her husband. When Razdan asked for help, most of the people walked away from her. But in the end, we did meet a few courageous Delhiites who not only called the police but also fought with her enraged husband (actor Vijay Malhotra) and put him in his place.
