This ad is changing how China looks down upon its unmarried women
Updated on Apr 13, 2016 11:58 am IST
Chinese society stigmatises unmarried women over 25 years of age by terming them “leftovers”.
Women experience great pressure to get married early with parents normally finding them husbands in “marriage markets”.
Thanks to this ad by skincare brand SK II, women are taking on these marriage markets and slowly speaking up for themselves by using terms like “happy”, “independent” and a “power woman”.
The ad ends with a mother saying, “Leftover women are outstanding. Leftover men need to try harder.”
