West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responded to the massacre in Birbhum in which 8 charred bodies were found. While assuring strict action in the case, Mamata deflected blame and lashed out at the opposition in the state for politicising the issue. She also sparked a controversy by saying, "Such kinds of incidents have happened in Gujarat and Rajasthan too. I am not justifying the incident in Rampurhat. We will take action in a fair manner." On the other hand, Calcutta High Court took suo motu cognizance of the violence in West Bengal and sought a status report from the Mamata government to be submitted by 2 PM tomorrow when the case will be heard again. The high court also directed police to provide protection to eyewitnesses in the case. Watch this video for more details.
