German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have said they are personally open to joining Donald Trump’s newly launched “Peace Board,” but stressed that constitutional limits prevent their countries from formally participating. Speaking at a joint press conference in Rome, both leaders cited legal concerns with the board’s current structure while expressing willingness to explore alternative cooperation formats with the United States. The initiative, inaugurated in Davos, aims to support peace efforts in Gaza and other global conflicts. Meloni also defended Trump against criticism and said she hopes he could one day receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
