Metro Matters | The nuts and bolts of Delhi’s new Electric Vehicle policy

Updated on Feb 22, 2020 10:47 pm IST

In this episode of Metro Matters, Hindustan Times' metro editor Shivani Singh speaks to Jasmine Shah, vice chairperson on the Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi, about the city's electric vehicle policy that aims to reduce vehicular pollution and improve mobility. The EV policy, which has been drafted by the commission and cleared by the Delhi cabinet last week, offers subsidies and waivers on road tax and registration fee for the purchase of new e-vehicles in the city. Shah explains how the policy, which will be notified soon, is focused on promoting electric two-wheelers, shared vehicles, freight and last-mile delivery vehicles, and e-buses. He gives details of the subsidies and exemptions, provisions to set up charging infrastructure and government's plans to tap renewable energy to power e-vehicles in the city.
