Watch | Here’s how Mumbai’s dabbawalas will help feed the poor

Updated on Dec 31, 2015 12:38 pm IST

Mumbai residents now have the option to put the left over food from parties and mass gatherings to good use. Around 400 dabbawalas in the city have started a new initiative called 'Roti (bread) Bank' to help distribute left over food to the poor. Under the initiative, the lunchbox delivery men have tied up with caterers and wedding planners to serve the city's needy. Any individual or event organiser can also directly get in touch with the lunchbox delivery men on the helpline number(+919867221310 and +918652760542). Dabbawalas in Mumbai have for decades collected hot lunches from customers' often distant homes and, using a complex delivery system and overladen bicycles, carried them to offices and schools across the city.
