As the income tax department carries out "surveys" at BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai, the U.S. has highlighted the importance of freedom of expression and a free press for democracies. However, the US State Department stated that it was "not in a position to offer any judgment" on the charge of irregularities. Indian tax officials said the department is looking at documents related to the business operations of the company and those related to its Indian arm. The I-T Sleuths carried out the survey operation over allegations of international taxation and transfer pricing irregularities against the BBC. As per reports, mobile phones, laptops, and desktop computers of some employees were seized. Watch this report for more.
