Prime Minister Narendra Modi's respect for the Indian flag at the BRICS stage goes viral. PM Modi noticed the Indian tricolour on the ground during the group photo at BRICS. He made sure not to step on the flag kept as a marker. The Indian Prime Minister picked up the tricolour and kept it in his pocket, respectfully. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa followed suit after Modi's gesture. Ramaphosa picked up the flag and gave it to an official near the podium. Ramaphosa then asked PM Modi to give the flag to the official, but he refused. PM Modi indicated that he would rather carry the Indian tricolour in his pocket.
