In a rare support, India voted in favour of the Pakistan-sponsored Organisation of Islamic Cooperation resolution against the Quran burnings at the UN Human Rights Council. Pakistan introduced a resolution on behalf of the 57-nation OIC over Quran burning in Sweden last month. The UN Human Rights Council passed a resolution against religious hatred, with 28 countries voting in favour, 12 voting against, and 7 abstaining. However, western countries, including the U.S. And the UK, opposed the Pakistan-sponsored resolution, arguing that it was designed to safeguard religious symbols rather than human rights. Representatives of some countries clapped after the resolution passed.
