India's big revelation on fertiliser ships crossing Hormuz Strait amid mounting Kharif season demand

Published on Jul 06, 2026 05:40 pm IST

The Central government has announced that 15 vessels carrying fertilisers and key raw materials have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz after the vital shipping route reopened on June 17, easing supply concerns following disruptions caused by the West Asia conflict. According to the Department of Fertilisers, the shipments include urea, di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), and sulphur, with the vessels now arriving at Indian ports after being delayed since the conflict began. The government also said it has secured 19.76 million tonnes of fertilisers, covering over 51% of the estimated Kharif season requirement of 38.39 million tonnes, ensuring uninterrupted supplies for farmers. Union Minister J.P. Nadda credited advance planning, diversified imports, and close coordination with Indian missions abroad for maintaining supply despite global disruptions.
