'Instilling fear': Why Haryana passed a bill against 'illegal conversions'

The Haryana government Has passed the Haryana Prevention of Unlawful Conversion of Religious Bill, 2022. The Bill is passed to prevent religious conversions that are done "through force, undue influence or allurement." The bill was tabled in the Vidhan Sabha on March 4. Similar Bills in the recent past have been passed in the BJP-ruled state, including Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Congress party opposed the bill and staged a walkout in the Assembly.
