PIB Fact Check has debunked viral social media claims suggesting that the Reserve Bank of India plans to withdraw paper currency notes and replace them with plastic notes by June 30, 2026. In a post on X on June 10, the fact-checking unit termed the claim "false" and clarified that the RBI has made no such announcement regarding the withdrawal of existing paper currency. PIB also flagged a viral video carrying images of Indian currency notes and a purported speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the content had been digitally altered to spread misinformation.
