Minority tag for Hindus: Why Modi govt wants 'wider consultations' over the move

- In just over a month, the Modi govt has changed it's stance on minority status for Hindus in Supreme Court. The Union government says that it has the power to notify minorities and in the issue of Hindus it will initiate a “wide consultation” with states and other stakeholders to examine the request. Earlier, Centre in it's reply to a plea in SC said that states can decide on minority tag including Hindus if their population is low. All details in this report.
