Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a major austerity drive, leading by example by directing the SPG to cut the size of his official convoy by at least 50% amid concerns linked to the ongoing Hormuz crisis and global fuel uncertainty. The move comes days after PM Modi urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption, limit non-essential travel, and adopt more sustainable habits. As part of the initiative, officials say the Prime Minister has also instructed the PMO to accelerate the inclusion of electric vehicles in his official fleet. PM Modi’s convoy, which typically includes around two dozen vehicles, will now be significantly downsized.
